The city of Buckhannon resides in Upshur County, which was formed in 1851 from Randolph, Barbour, and Lewis counties. Named for Judge Abel P. Upshur, distinguished statesman and jurist of Virginia.
Upshur County is an area of 350 square miles in north central West Virginia where gentle hills are separated by wide valleys. Through the valleys flow rivers and steams creating beauty and productive lands.
